American Samoa has no medical marijuana program at this time, and cannabis is illegal for medical and recreational use. Therefore, it is not yet possible to qualify for a medical marijuana certificate in the territory.

Most programs have a list of qualifying conditions required for becoming a medical marijuana patient. We expect future laws in American Samoa to include a list of qualifying conditions to be eligible for medical cannabis or CBD.
American Samoa takes a firm stance on cannabis products, including those containing cannabidiol (CBD). CBD is considered “marijuana” in the territory and is equally restricted.
Possession of any amount of cannabis carries a mandatory $5,000 fine and up to five years in prison.
Under most states’ medical cannabis laws, a caregiver can be assigned to assist with the purchase and administering of medical cannabis to minor patients or patients who otherwise may need assistance from others.
Most states have a minimum caregiver age requirement (typically 18 or 21). In many states, the caregiver must also have no criminal convictions relating to drug offenses or violent crimes.
American Samoa doesn’t recognize other states’ medical cards because cannabis is illegal in the territory. The following states accept or recognize out-of-state medical marijuana cards:

*Visitors must complete a visiting patient application with the state program.
